Monthly Archives: February 2007

I’m not really aggravated about anything today that I can write about publicly, so in order to keep my writing going, I thought I’d add a post about what the title of my blog means.

Seeing Red:
Because I’m frequently ticked off. At things like the state of our world, the shallowness of people, that TV news really blows, that I had to pay bills today, traffic….like I said, I’m frequently ticked off. (By the way, in writing this blog, I’m making a concerted effort to keep my language clean in order to better use my substantial vocabulary – something I rarely do when I’m ticked off and TALKING about it!)

Bleeding Blue:
Two reasons –
One: I’m a born and bred Democrat. My Democratic leanings are based on a “people before corporations” philosophy. I believe that taking care of the poor is significantly more important than taking care of big business. Child care beyond the womb. Quality of life, not just life. Personal responsibility in the vein of “to whom much is given (Americans), much is expected.” I believe in God, and I believe that He wants us to take care of each other, not just ourselves. Thus, my Democratic blue. (I would add that I’m also a pragmatist, and one party is not ALWAYS better than the other. They’re all faulty human beings.)
Two: A much more shallow reason, I guess – I’m also a dyed-in-the-wool University of Kentucky Wildcat basketball fan. (And right now, this season, I’m suffering along with all the others, the sadness that is the 2006-7 basketball season)

Feeling Green:
I am in love with nature. I can look at changing leaves, a trickling mountain stream, falling rain or snow, birds chasing each other out of the feeder, for a very long time. It gives me peace. In the same vein, I love animals. Animals break my heart, from horses running the Derby to my dog licking my face when I’ve come home in a bad mood.
I guess this goes along with my reasons for the Bleeding Blue – I care deeply about our environment and believe that it is our responsibility to take care of the planet God gave us. I do believe that the government should strictly regulate corporations in this aspect, because many corporations have proven themselves untrustworthy to regulate themselves. I believe we need to take care of the animals on this planet, as they have no natural defense against guns and loss of habitat.

So that’s it. Make sense? Enjoy the picture…

I can’t believe that I’m actually going to post on this topic again, but it’s just too easy…

(Sing along – you know the tune)

She checks herself in
She check herself out
She checks herself in
And then she walks back out
It’s the Rehab Hokey Pokey
She’s in rehab, then she’s out
And that what’s “THE NEWS” is about.>1=7702

Okay, this is probably a bit late, since the news broke Saturday morning (two days ago), but I’ll do it anyway…WTF?????

Normally on a Saturday morning, I’d be checking out the Weekend Today Show while having coffee for a little bit of mindless entertainment. HOWEVER, the ridiculously self-aggrandizing local affiliate decided, because it was just barely snowing, that they needed to pre-empt the Today show to run continuous snow and traffic coverage – on a Saturday morning – also something they did NOT do during the really bad weather earlier in the week, when rush hour was actually affected and people actually NEEDED the info.

So I figure, well, I’ll watch some real news. Click. CNN. What is the earth-shattering “BREAKING NEWS” that they’re running with the big alarm banner below??? Britney-“That’s It, My Meltdown is Complete”-Spears shaving her head to expose the hole where her brains fell out when she met KFed. Ugh. Ugh. Isn’t there a war somewhere that the real news channels could cover and leave crap like this to Entertainment Tonight? Please?

I thought I’d share a couple of photos from this past week’s sleet/ice/snow storm. When the sun finally came out on Thursday (after two days of this stuff), it was beyond beautiful, even during my commute…

The first pic is from a tree right outside my house, the second I took while I was driving home from work (this is along the highway), and the third is the entry drive to my neighborhood…beautiful, simply beautiful…Like everything was covered in glass or crystal or made of tinsel when the sun shone on it…

You can click on each picture to see a large version of it.

This may be one of the funniest things on SNL in, like, 15 years!!! I hope it stays online on youtube for a while.

He’s funnier than most of the comedians that host the show (and most of the cast, too). And I’m not what you would describe as a big fan of his music (it falls in the okay to good range)….

I swear, it doesn’t matter who it is, the Super Bowl Halftime Shows are always lame. Endless and lame. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but they’d do better by running more commercials. The people in the stands at the Super Bowl are all going to concessions and the bathroom anyway. The people … wait, Prince is actually covering a Foo Fighters song…this may be the most schizophrenic half-time show yet – yes, even more than the year that Britney Spears and NSYNC teamed up with Aerosmith for one serious suck-fest. …Anyway, the people at home are all in the bathroom or the kitchen. Why do they bother? The acoustics are ALWAYS bad… I mean, Prince is normally pretty good live (yes, I’ve seen him live), but damn…it’s like they’re always trying too hard.
